Lynne Marta, the actress who starred in Footloose, tragically passed away last week at her home in Los Angeles, following a battle with cancer.
The death of the Hollywood star comes just weeks after the death of her famous ex, David Soul who starred in the American television series, Starsky & Hutch.
Lynne Marta dies following cancer battle weeks after ‘longtime lover’
Marta, who appeared in movies including Joe Kidd and Footloose, passed away at her home on Thursday (January 11), friend Chris Saint-Hilaire told The Hollywood Reporter.
The star also appeared in a number of TV series, starring as a regular in the comedy series Love, American Style, as well as appearing in episodes of The Mod Squad and Starsky & Hutch, alongside her ‘longtime lover’ David Soul.
In 1983, Marta described her relationship with Soul, as “open” to PEOPLE.
The publication reported at the time the couple lived together throughout the Starsky & Hutch years (1975-1979) but spent time “with other people”.
From 1968 to 1977, Soul was married to Karen Clarson, and Marta was married to Brick Huston, between 1968 and 1975. The two never married each other.
David passed away on January 4, 2024, aged 80. His wife Helen Small said he died “after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family”.
The star ‘rose to fame’ on teen dance program
Marta’s first role on screen was on the teen dance show, The Lloyd Thaxton Show. In 1966, aged 21 she landed on episodes of Gidget and The Monkees, and her career took off from there.
She had endless TV credits to her name, including Then Came Bronson, Gunsmoke, Kojak, as well as popular soap operas Passions, The Young and the Restless, and Days of Our Lives.
Lynn was raised in Somerville, New Jersey by her mother and father, George, who was commissioner of air and water pollution for the State.
She was the youngest of two girls and is survived by her elder sister, MJ.
