A Laurel man was killed in a crash in Bay Springs early Friday morning, according to a press release from the Bay Springs Police Department.
Charles Edward Luke, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene on Highway 15 North after the pickup he was driving and a tractor-trailer collided near the Bay Center Shopping Center, where Piggly Wiggly is located, just after 5:15 a.m.
When the ambulance arrived, medics discovered that the driver of the pickup was trapped inside the vehicle, according to the report, and Coroner Keith Shelby pronounced him dead at the scene.
Luke worked at Hol-Mac Corporation, near where the crash occurred, and he leaves behind his wife and two young daughters.
He played football at South Jones and coached his older daughter’s softball team. He was also remembered as an avid outdoorsman.
Luke’s funeral service was set for 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Moselle Memorial Baptist Church. A fund has been set up at The First Bank in Laurel for anyone wishing to help the family.
